The 28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) is holding the ‘Beyond Reality’ exhibition at Bucheon Art Bunker B39 from today until the 14th. The XR section of BIFAN, which began in 2016, is celebrating its 9th anniversary this year and will showcase over 30 of the latest XR content from 18 countries.
This exhibition features a number of works that utilize cutting-edge technologies such as AI-based 3D scanning, Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs), and Gaussian splatting. In particular, various works, including a selection recommended by the Geneva International Film Festival, await the audience.
Along with ‘Beyond Reality’, the ‘AI Event Zone’ offers a chance to experience various AI-based film production tools. ‘Noovil Bucheon’ is an experiential exhibition that combines live-action role-playing and augmented reality walking games, allowing participants to rediscover space, nature, and the city through active participation. In addition, special exhibitions of ‘Sanrio Virtual Festival’ and ‘XR Festival Asia x Sanrio Virtual Festival Project’ will be unveiled.
In addition to the exhibition, a panel discussion titled ‘Immersive Media and the Future of Festivals’ will be held at the Bucheon Arts Center Small Theater on July 5th, focusing on the prospects and issues of festivals utilizing XR technology. XR Curator Kim Jong-min expressed his anticipation, stating, “This year's ‘Beyond Reality’ will showcase works that broaden the boundaries of traditional storytelling and take audience interaction to a new level.”
The 28th BIFAN will be held from July 4th to 14th in Bucheon, and screenings will be available at Bucheon City Hall, the Korean Cartoon Museum, CGV Sofung, Bucheon Art Bunker B39, and the online screening room Wavve.
